Jeremy Schaap’s well done but highly disturbing report on the “corrective rape” epidemic in South Africa
ESPN’s investigate journalism show E:60 is easily one of the best programs the network has ever produced. The stories are almost always compelling, well researched, and well produced. Last night was no exception.
Rachel Nichols and Jeremy Schaap are my two favorite reporters who contribute to E:60 and last night a report aired by Schaap about the terrible epidemic of “corrective rape” in South Africa. This is the term applied when South African men rape lesbian women in an effort to “make them straight”.
A number of high profile South African female athletes are lesbian and have fallen prey to this terrible practice. Unfortunately, it is something ingrained deeply in the culture of South Africa that even the police seem unwilling to acknowledge.
The video is 16:00+ but is well worth it, and is a great example of the kind of stories ESPN is capable of when they aren’t trying to convince LeBron James to go to New York.

I think this is the best example of politically correct terminology gone wrong. I didn’t rape her for my own sexual satisfaction. I raped her for her own: so she wouldn’t be gay! Cunning. Those altruistic Africans. Always trying to bestow their 30 billion dollar inheritance, or fix these problems with sexual identity.
This is heartbreaking. It’s frightening what insecurity, fear, and ignorance can drive man to do.
